Durnin said he was confident Harry Redknapp's team would turn round what he called a 'stuttering start' to seal another successful year.
He spoke of his times at Fratton Park during a promotion bash in Liverpool for a new online poker site 10KingsPoker.com
Durnin, who played 181 times for Pompey in a six-year spell that began in 1993, talked fondly of his time at the club, and of the city itself.
He chatted about enjoying the hospitality of naval messes in the city, although surprisingly for a man dubbed Johnny Lager by fans, he revealed that 'rocket-fuel' cider was his brew of choice.
