Harry Redknapp lamented his side's defending after Pompey got their season off to the worst possible start with a 4-0 defeat at Chelsea.
The Blues boss insisted his men had been unable to cope with Chelsea's masterclass as Luiz Felipe Scolari enjoyed his first match in English football.

Redknapp said: 'It was a tough day.

'They were just too bright and their movement was too much for us really. We couldn't stay with it.

'But some of our defending was down to basic errors.

'We ended up standing there just watching then having to chase it.

'That's how we defended all day – it was poor.'

harry, you picked the team........surely you can see sol's legs are shot, surely you can see papa is not a right winger (i thought u spent 8 million on utaka for that)..........kranky needs a bullet up his bum, surely u can see crouch and defoe hAVE NO SERVICE WHATSOEVER, yes terrible display, but from what i saw and the team YOU picked the blame lies not just in defenfive errors but in who picked the team, you got it wrong again, just admit it, and have the balls to change things quick

I think you need to bring one of the youngsters in at the back to help keep up with the opposition strikers, if you maybe give Cranie a run in the team this could help-other teams do it!! some of the players like Sol has done a good job over the last couple of years but now he lacks so much pace and hes not good enough so get him off the clubs wage bill, and also start playing players in their right positions because it ain't working anymore!!

so we spend 5 million on kaboul and play him jn midfield what is that about surely better to spend 5 on shorey which then gives another canter half in herman who also covers left back! we were shocking today i recon 13th finish any1 any suggestions?

i dont personally think shorey is the answer, i just still cant believe we have got rid of a playmaker and man with so much vision in mendes, and brought a player worse than diop..............yes herman and sols legs are gone........and with kranky and diop on the wings they aint gonna get back, today was embarresing to say the least, why cant harry see that if your a defender you shouldnt play centre mid....................and the man they call the wardrobe stuck out on the wing, like he was a wardrobe fixed to the spot....................things need changing

I feel so sorry for Harry. The heart has been ripped out of his midfield by the sales of Muntari and Mendes. There's no way he bought Kaboul to play him in the centre of midfield. Harry was promised funds from the sale of Muntari and now that's been denied him. That's the reward he gets for turning us into FA Cup winners. If he had been able to sign SWP I'm certain Crouch and Defoe would look a lot more effective right now. But instead we've been reduced to lumping long balls up to the pair of them. We shouldn't be reduced to scratching around for loan players after last season. I'm sure Harry, his coaching staff and the likes of Diarra, Distin and Defoe are feeling more than a little cheesed off right now.

Embarrassing - That was a bad day at the office. I know nothing went for us and you get days like this, in fact Chelsea away is probably a good day to have no luck if you get some later in the season, but the worrying thing was that we were totally outplayed as we were last Sunday, we have no width and no threat, all that money on a dreamteam strikeforce will be wasted if we have no engine room.

ric, harry picjked the team, whilst sulking in his 10 million pound, sandbanks abode, we will still be paying our season ticket installments on the credit card...................

There is obviously something going wrong at the club when we sell £14m worth of talent and can't spend the money. I know we bought Crouch and Kaboul but that really only equates to a £2m spend. Yes, Peter "you can trust me, honest guv" Storrie will bleat on about wages, but surely the wage bill is not £50m a year. That is the minimum the club will bring in with TV money, season tickets and merchandising. That's not to mention extra money from europe and the FA Cup. Are we looking to move forward or are we not? At least if the club came out and said that they were looking to maintain rather than improve, the fans would know waht to expect. As it is today's performance was not satisfactory and something has to change...quickly !!

We Can Do It

Today's Vote

Is Tony Adams right to make changes to the Pompey side who beat Blackburn?
Adams should stick to the side that earned him his first win at Fratton Park
He should only change things around if there are injuries
If Campbell and Kranjcar are fit they should start
Davis deserves a starting role after his heroics against Blackburn
With a heavy fixture schedule coming up, changes are needed
