A lean, mean Niko Kranjcar continues to excel on the comeback trail.
And his impressive progress has got Joe Jordan singing his praises.

The Croatian star has been out for the last seven weeks following surgery on damaged ligaments in his right ankle.

But he has now spent the past week running outside as his anticipated end-of-the-month return approaches ever close.

For first-team coach Jordan, it's a fight for fitness worth applauding.
And he has been swift to hail the determination of Kranjcar.

He said: 'Niko is looking lean after being out for quite a period of time.

'It's difficult with the injury he had to get him working but we have.

'He's worked himself under supervision and guidance and he is looking good in the respect of where he is at this stage.'

Meanwhile, Pompey have fresh concerns over Sean Davis ahead of the Villa trip.

The midfielder trained yesterday – but afterwards complained of a slight back problem.

Lassana Diarra (knee) and Richard Hughes (groin) are already struggling to take their places in the Pompey engine room.

Now they have been joined by the rejuvenated Davis, although Jordan is hopeful all three can still figure at Villa Park on Saturday.

He added: 'We have one or two little knocks, especially in central midfield, it's something we need to assess.

'Sean Davis trained yesterday but had a little problem with his back. He's had a reaction.

'Lassie came back yesterday and the physios are looking at the scans that have been taken. They will be assessed.

'Hopefully we can get Richard Hughes off the treatment table, too.'

Mr Beattie to you,

Eat less, train more, lose the extra timber and then we may see you fulfil your undoubted potential.
Velo are you seriously trying to defend the fattest sportsman in england? Closely followed by Andy Fordham.
We pay him a lot of money and he is bang out of order being so unfit and overweight, he did not complete a single game at the Euros and when did he last look good for us???
Thiiinnnk about it Velo you rose tinted chump.

i never said he was not as fit as he should be, or that he needs to improve in that area. he does.

I was merely saying I bored of the same tired jokes which people keep on making. Now you THINK about it Jeff. And also bored of the crass, gratuitous and ill thought out way people make this criticism of him. It is juvenile.

And why were my comments removed. Neither offensive or unsuitable. Tiring.

Well Velo, I do not remove peoples posts (regardless of what I think of them) unlike you JCL tubes.
Maybe if you could think for yourself and were not such a lemming, you would see beyond the "crassness" as you put it and see the real point.
A little sarcasm never hurt anyone and if you can't handle it go to the CBBC website, it is probably more your level of intelligence anyway. PLUM.
PS - Lose weight Kranjcar you fat chump!

Pete Saunders,

er.....does lean Niko not suggest that he HAS been a professional athlete and remained lean despite being injured?
Every time I have seen him in Portsmouth it has been in Loch Fyne eating LEAN fish!

Er No Pete, was Niko lean when he got injured? Er No. He turned his ankle reaching for another slice of pizza, because he had a full fat coke in the other hand he went over and injured himself..
Niko has not been LEAN in over a year, so er NO he has not REMAINED LEAN, he has maybe got lean doing Gym work but that proves my point! He should be LEAN anyway, he has nothing else to do..

We Can Do It

Today's Vote

Is Tony Adams right to make changes to the Pompey side who beat Blackburn?
Adams should stick to the side that earned him his first win at Fratton Park
He should only change things around if there are injuries
If Campbell and Kranjcar are fit they should start
Davis deserves a starting role after his heroics against Blackburn
With a heavy fixture schedule coming up, changes are needed
