Felix Magath thanked David James for giving Wolfsburg a helping hand in Uefa Cup qualification.
The Pompey keeper guided a 74th-minute pass straight to Zvjezdan Misimovic, who then rounded him to net the winner in a 3-2 success.

Magath said: 'We needed the help of the Portsmouth goalkeeper to get our third goal.

'Overall, I think we played an interesting game here as we have done many times.

'The first half we played very well going up front. The defence were not quite so strong. This is probably because our first goal came so early in the first half.

'We forgot we had to look after our own goal, so the opponents had chances and scored two goals.

'But we took that in our stride and I do feel we deserved the equaliser at half-time.

'Then we missed the opportunity to win the game with the penalty and there was a little bit of a frantic time at the end to make sure we held the result.

'We are very satisfied and very proud we have done such an excellent job in this group against some really strong teams, such as Portsmouth.'
