Pamarot: We have to sort it out in defence

NOE PAMAROT revealed his concerns over Pompey's set-piece weakness and declared: We need to get it right quickly.
After a season of impressive defensive performances, the Blues have looked suspect at free-kicks and corners in recent weeks.
Both goals in the 2-0 defeat at Middles-brough – and the winner in the league finale against Fulham on Sunday – came from set-plays.
And with Cardiff expected to attempt to exploit that weakness in the FA Cup final on Saturday, the French defender insists Pompey will be putting in the hours on the training pitch to rediscover their belief at the back.
Pamarot said: 'At Middlesbrough, we conceded two goals from set-pieces and then we conceded another one against Fulham.
'Fulham didn't look dangerous. Then they had two corners, which we didn't deal with properly and we lost it for five minutes.
'We conceded the goal from a free-kick and we looked a bit vulnerable, but we will be working hard in training to make sure we get it right for the final.
'We're a bit worried about the confidence. We didn't focus on the set-pieces and they are a big part of football.'
The French defender returned to the side at the weekend after missing the past three months with a knee ligament injury, but slotted in seamlessly alongside Sylvain Distin.
Although Sol Campbell is expected to return to the side for the Wembley clash, Pamarot has proved a capable deputy in any defensive position.
Pamarot said: 'The knee feels good again. I've been training with the team for the past two or three weeks now and it's not the same as a game, but I felt ready.
'My healing process wasn't that good – it took too long.
'I came back and started running, but I couldn't do more.
'But I was sitting on the bench for the semi-final and I couldn't stay in my seat, so I told the guys I definitely want to be in the team for the final.
'Hopefully, I can carry on this week, but it's up to the manager.'
Although he knows he may have to settle for a place among the substitutes, the former Spurs star has outlined his determination to make sure Pompey lift the FA Cup this weekend.
And the 29-year-old was honest enough to admit this could represent his only shot for a medal throughout an impressive career.
Pamarot said: 'I know this could be the only chance of my career to win something.
'For some players here, it is just the beginning of their careers, but for some players like me it is a great challenge to win something.
'We don't have the opportunity like this every year and we have to realise that and make the most of it.'
