Harry Redknapp has laid down the gauntlet to new signing Jerome Thomas to step up and challenge for a first team place.
Thomas signed on loan from Charlton for a season today and Redknapp laid down the gauntlet to his new charge.

The winger is back in the Premier League following a spell with Charlton after leaving Arsenal for the south London club.

The youngster believes his development can be aided by Pompey's impressive batch of experienced professionals.

In today's pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday's game against Chelsea, the Pompey boss challenged Thomas to take his chance.

Redknapp said, "He's got good ability, terrific ability and now it's up to him.

"We've given him that stage and now he's got to take that chance."

I don't believe the club would have sold Mendes unless Harry agreed it, he has calculated that we have loads of central midfielders and are desperately short of pace and width. Davis was our best midfielder first half of last season. Ultimately I am pleased that the club is showing some fiscal responsibility. We could not go on spending the way we were on crowds of 20000. You only have to look at leeds to see where that can get you. Another top half finish will be a good achievement.

The last six years have been an absolute dream for us and yes, I am sad to see Pedro go but we do NOT want to see the dark days of 98 again.

Keep the faith - PUP.

Trueblue/Dave/+ others, would you be happy as a manager that has just led your team to it's highest league position for 50+ years and just won the F A Cup to boot, only to find that alleged promises made about transfer funds were no more than the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow? Hmm, let's think about that! Harry with his backroom staff (probably one of the smallest for a team in it's position) work out what they need to take the team onto the next level. The CEO, being the go between the staff and the owner goes on Sky TV to announce new 'quality signings' and we are no longer a selling club, then suddenly we start to sell. First Muntari, then Mendes and no doubt Nico, had Arsenal any money to spend. Crouch aside, we've signed Little on a free, the Thomas today, also on a free. Ok, we spent money on Kaboul, but this is a long way off what Harry supposedly thought he would have to play with to strengthen the squad.

Whatever people on this site think of Harry as a manager and person, he has brought the long awaited success to this club that us supporters have craved for. We are in Europe as a result of lifting the F A Cup. It may be years before we see another final contested by teams outside the top four. We have a number of English players currently involved in the national squad.

Therefore give the man credit for what he has achieved. I suspect that some days he questions is it all worth it. Having to wait on decisions from above as to whether his transfer targets can be funded. I sometimes wonder if he feels that he could achieve more personal satisfaction if he put his resources into getting Bournemouth out of the mire.

If he quit Pompey no one could blame him. I'm sure many of us would feel equally frustrated at the position the club is in. This is not laying the blame at Sasha. I've stated before that money is hard to come by at this moment in time, especially when you are a foreigner in a different country.

I bet if Harry quit and took over a

old blue........how many times we gonna hear it.........yes we won the fa cup, yes weve done well, but we were led to believe we would be progressing this season with a team to hold there own in europe..................what have we got..........2 nquality players gone and 2 championship players in......................i do agree it has been great, but if your honest you must seriously question the standard of our squad and how we will cope in europe.................then storrie blames things on the credit crunch.....open your eyes some of u, yes we won the cup yes we finished higher than ever......but yes we will finish in the bottom half this year and yes we will crash out of europe very very early, u mark my words

i think someone in charge is finally losing it at pompey , hilarious and tragic at the same time, replacing class players with championship players and playing long ball to a tall striker who isnt good with his head anyways,

something big is gonna happen soon at pompey i can just feel it

We Can Do It

Today's Vote

Is Tony Adams right to make changes to the Pompey side who beat Blackburn?
Adams should stick to the side that earned him his first win at Fratton Park
He should only change things around if there are injuries
If Campbell and Kranjcar are fit they should start
Davis deserves a starting role after his heroics against Blackburn
With a heavy fixture schedule coming up, changes are needed
