Former Nigeria Football Federation technical director Chief Kashimawo Laloko wants to see Portsmouth striker Nwankwo Kanu retire from the national team.
'Players like Kanu are old and they have to go and rest,' said Laloko.

'We should always look at the level of development of our game. Nobody needs to tell anybody that Kanu is old. If the speed is lost, the power is lost.

'It is only the brain that is there, but you can only play football with speed, power and skill and once the speed is gone forget it. Other upcoming players should step in.'

Erm, who got us through to the F.A cup final?
Who won us the F.A cup?

People are too quick to disregard a plyer just because of his age. If Kanu's too old, then what the hell is Jamo still doing between the sticks? And Why's Campbell still playing?

I know why. Because they're still top of their class. We may have Crouch and Defoe now, but we shouldn't discount Kanu. He's still a good player. Definitely better than 'that other striker' we bought.

The TEAM won the cup for us. dont go praising Kanu for doing it alone because other than scoring in the Semi & Final and missing 1 other chance he didn't do much. What did Kanu do Vs Man utd before the Semi final??? a great team performance got us there and they Won it for us.

Kanu has been pretty much unavailable all season for Pompey through injury. At his age (and there are always snidey comments about what that actually is) he doesn't need to play extra games. Retiring from the national team is the best way to get more rest and prolong a career - ask Alan Shearer.

Euroman, I understand that a team effort was a CONTRIBUTION to our F.A cup win.

How old is Kanu anyway? Last I heard, people were rekoning 32, which isn't old at all, not compared to Jamo, campbell etc.

Also, I've just beenon wikipedia. Whether this can be guaranteed as true or not, it states on there that Kanu's the only currentpremiership player to win the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup, Premiership, FA Cup and an Olympic Gold Medal, and apparently he's also a UNICEF ambassador.

Fancy that.

Kanu is the ideal man to come off the bench in our UEFA cup games and make an impact, there's no one else to call on that can actually score goals if Defoe and Crouch are not on song. No idea euroman.

We Can Do It

Today's Vote

Is Tony Adams right to make changes to the Pompey side who beat Blackburn?
Adams should stick to the side that earned him his first win at Fratton Park
He should only change things around if there are injuries
If Campbell and Kranjcar are fit they should start
Davis deserves a starting role after his heroics against Blackburn
With a heavy fixture schedule coming up, changes are needed
