There was a real mix of messy painting, African drumming, and spring-a-lings for the kids and even head massages to help the adults unwind at the opening of a new children's centre.
The Stubblee Hill Children's Centre, in Elmore Road, Lee-on-the-Solent, was given its official opening with more than 150 under-fives and their parents joining in the fun and games. The Sure Start centre was given its name as it covers the Lee, Stubbington and Hill Head wards.

Susie Hammond, the centre's administrator, said: 'It was a very successful opening, and we had people asking if it would be like this every day. Unfortunately, we can't have this much on every day, but there will be a lot of different sessions – baby signing, ante-natal fit-before-baby classes, wiggle and giggle, and fathers' workshops.

'It is basically a community centre for children under five. At the moment we are just going to try a lot of things and seeing what works.' For more information ring (023) 9255 3816.
