A MAN who had sex with a 14-year-old girl has been jailed for two years.
Damien Milton knew the girl was under the legal age of consent when he engaged in sexual activity with her near his home in Gosport in April of this year.

Today the girl's mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said her daughter had been l
eft deeply traumatised and upset by the ordeal.

She said: 'This has had quite an extreme effect on my daughter.

'She stopped eating and started falling behind at school.

'Her attitude to her family and school has completely changed – she has difficulty explaining why but I believe it's because of what she has been through.

'I'm pleased this man admitted what he did and my daughter did not have to go through the ordeal of giving evidence in front of a jury. Like any parent would think in a situation like this, I don't think the sentence is long enough but at least he received a prison sentence.

'We just want to move on now and put this behind us. My daughter is keen to get on with her life and get back to normal.'

Milton, 21, of Charden Road, Gosport, will remain on the sex offenders' register for 10 years.

He is likely to serve a year behind bars before he is released into the community again on licence.

Milton has already served more than 150 days in custody awaiting sentence which means he is likely to be freed in around 200 days.

He admitted one count of sexual activity with a child.
