The amended South East Plan, designed to cope with the expected growth in population in the region in the coming years, sets out where the homes will be built across the area.
Land north of Fareham is earmarked for a major new development of 10,000 homes.
Fareham town centre will be expanded so it can cope with the influx of people, and the development will have public transport links including a bus service.
Fareham borough will also have 3,720 new homes – 186 a year.
Havant and Gosport will have more office space to increase employment opportunities. Havant will have to find space for 6,300 homes – 315 a year, while Gosport needs 2,500 – 125 a year.
Portsmouth and Southampton will be the centre points for investment, employment, retail, entertainment and education for the area.
Portsmouth will have to find space for 14,700 new homes. Some of these could be catered for at Tipner and Horsea Island.
