A group of swimmers who were planning to tackle the Solent yesterday were left disappointed as bad weather forced them to call the swim off.
They had planned to swim from Stokes Bay to Ryde, Isle of Wight, before making their way to the Bestival music festival.

They were helping to raise cash for the Gosport branch of the Chernobyl Children's Life Line.

Organiser Colin Tabram said swim would be reorganised. He said: 'I'm disappointed and upset, it just wasn't to be. We are going see when we can reschedule it.

'Although we were beaten today we won't be beaten full stop. These things are sent to try us.'
