KIND-HEARTED pupils and teachers have been busy raising cash to help a youngster be more comfortable in school.
Dylan Larcombe, nine, was born with cerebral palsy and for much of the day has to use a wheelchair.
The Year 5 pupil has a weight-bearing frame at home which allows him to stand and stops him getting cramp.
But the NHS would only provide a frame at home and his mum says the local education authority – Hampshire County Council – won't pay for one because it's not classed as educational equipment.
So pupils at Holbrook Primary School in Gosport have been collecting pennies to buy one for him.
Staff have also been heavily involved including teacher Catherine Hallam, who asked friends to give her money instead of presents for her birthday so she could give cash to the fund.
As a result the school has already collected £500 – a third of the way to the target of £1,500. Dylan's mum Alison Crabtree, 44, says she feels bowled over.
The mum-of-four, of Netley Abbey, said: 'The school has been amazing.
'He's been there since he was four and they've done everything they can to help him to access the curriculum and what they're doing is fantastic.
'Dylan can't stand unaided so the frame allows him to do that. It puts him on the same eye level as his friends.'
As well as preventing cramp, the frame allows his hip sockets to develop and avoid painful dislocations.
The school's deputy headteacher, Terry Smith, said: 'Dylan has a lot of friends in school and everybody wanted to do something to help.
'The children have enjoyed collecting coins and we're very pleased to have raised £500 already.'
A county council spokesman said: 'A standing frame is regarded as a therapy aid and as such would normally be provided by the health service.'
