A hovercraft that appeared in a Bond film gave students a lift at HMS Sultan as they took on a day of science challenges.
More than 200 children from local secondary schools tested their skills at Europe's largest military engineering training school.

At the Gosport site on Wednesday youngsters tried to emulate the hovercraft from the 2002 film Die Another Day by making their own miniature versions.

The Royal Naval School of Marine Engineering held a similar event last year, but this time there were more challenges including making slime.

Event organiser Lieutenant Holly Henderson said: 'With fewer people taking science and engineering subjects to higher levels, it's important to show young people how the subjects can be applied in everyday life.

'They have been able to see that both can be fun, and so it seemed to be a very successful event.'

The challenges were designed to work with the Key Stage 3 Science curriculum, aimed at 14-year-olds, and the new Engineering Diploma initiative.
