TWO PEOPLE had to be saved by firefighters after a blaze started at a block of bedsits.
Two crews from Gosport and one from Fareham were called to Queens Road, Gosport, at 2.23am today after a woman living in one of the bedsits reported the fire.
They spent about 20 minutes putting out the flames while firefighters with breathing apparatus rescued a woman in her twenties and a man in his fifties from the building.
The man, who had tried to remove burning materials from the building, was given oxygen by firefighters and was treated for minor burns by paramedics at the scene.
The woman was in a state of shock after the blaze, but required no treatment.
Crews also checked the other two bedsits in the building to see if more people needed to be rescued, but these were both empty.
The fire started on the first floor of the building and then spread down to the ground floor.
It is not yet know how it started, but the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
After putting out the flames and rescuing the two people from the blaze, firefighters stayed at the scene until about 4.15am to clear the building of smoke.
