The average speed 'yellow vulture' cameras hovering over the A27 near Havant have been turned off.
The cameras had been in use since the beginning of the year while roadworks were being carried out on the A27, meaning drivers had to travel at no more than 40 mph or risk a £60 fine and three points on their licence.'
The cameras are still in place today but are due to be removed tonight.
Sergeant Jason Kirby from the Hampshire Safer Roads Partnership said: 'The road works have been completed and the company that is doing the project overnight last night and the night before removed the narrow lanes.
'The Specs cameras aren't in force now and they will be removed tonight.'
Stuart Thompson, senior publicity officer for the Highways Agency, added: 'The cameras are in the process of being taken down and they are not being enforced. There should be signs going up saying those cameras are not in use.'
That stretch of road saw big tailbacks this morning after a five-car pile-up.
The incident at about 7.30am caused traffic chaos and prompted police to close a lane for more than an hour while emergency services dealt with the incident.
Luckily no-one was seriously hurt in the accident, but a woman travelling in a Vauxhall Tigra had to be cut from the wreckage of her car.
The accident involved a five-car shunt on the sliproad that joins the eastbound A27 to the A3(M).
Three fire engines and two ambulances were at the scene within minutes.
Traffic on the sliproad was reduced to a single lane as police closed off the outside lane to attend to the drivers.
The scene of the crash was cleared at about 9am, and the traffic starting moving freely again.
- Specs cameras on the M27 between junctions 11 and 12 are still operating.
