PARENTS are demanding a school crossing is put on a busy road to stop a child being hurt in an accident.
Parents walking their children to Chidham Primary School, Chidham, near Emsworth, are fed up with having to negotiate the A259.

Chidham and Hambrook Parish Council has promised parents it will fund a proper crossing, but the bid has had a setback.

The council has been told it will have to fork out at least £18,000 more than what was originally quoted to pay for the crossing.

Members were originally told by West Sussex County Council that the cost of a crossing between Broad Road and Chidham Lane would cost between £30,000 and £40,000.

But the new estimate has come in at £58,000.

The parish council is confident, however, it can find the cash.

Cliff Archer, a parish councillor and school governor, said: 'Parents aren't keen to let their children cross the road because the traffic is so fast, so are choosing to drive their children to school.'
