A WOULD-BE MP is holding a 'healthy community day' in a bid to boost the wellbeing of people in Portsmouth.
Penny Mordaunt, who is hoping to oust Portsmouth North MP Sarah McCarthy-Fry in the next general election, has organised the event in Cosham High Street at the end of this month.

Traders, health promotion groups and charities will set up stalls with information and advice on how to live a healthier life. Health screening and anti-smoking services are also planned.

Ms Mordaunt said: 'I wanted to do something with a health theme as health inequalities are a huge issue for Portsmouth.

'I approached the council, which liked the idea and I have found funding to enable it to go ahead.

'We have decided to do it with the police, and it is my hope that, if successful, it could be rolled out to other areas in the north of the city.'

The event is on August 27. For details go to www.portsmouthnorth conservatives.com
