Dedicated members of St Mary's Hospital League of Friends are celebrating after becoming the first fund-raisers to be presented with five Rocky Appeal shields simultaneously in recognition of their mammoth fund-raising efforts.
Members – including chairman Peter Brokenshaw, Anne Frampton, treasurer Alison Earle and June Shepherd – worked tirelessly to raise £10,000 for the latest appeal and have been presented with the shields to recognise their achievements.

The cash will help boost the £3m appeal for three laparoscopic endoscopy theatres at the new Queen Alexandra superhospital.

The theatres will be used to perform up to 12,000 keyhole surgery operations every year on patients with conditions ranging from hernias to bowel cancer.

Appeal organiser Mick Lyons said: 'I gave a talk at the League of Friends' AGM and at the end they said "you've sung for your supper, now here's your payment".

'They handed me an envelope and found a cheque for £10,000!'
