Have your say

Two pictures today from Alan Greenhouse, who would like readers’ help. The first is a street party in what he believes is St Paul’s Road, Landport, Portsmouth.

The wonderfully-named Mizpah Mission is in the background.

Sitting at the front with a bouquet in her lap and wearing a crown is his grandmother Mary Jane Wood (nee Mortimore). Behind and standing to her left are his grandfather and aunt – John Wood and Beatrice Hounsome (nee Wood). They are both wearing conical white hats.

Alan says: ‘What I don’t know is what the occasion was. It may have been the 1935 silver jubilee. Can any of your readers help?’

Alan appears in the second photo in the middle of the front row. It was his class at Lyndhurst Road juniors, North End, Portsmouth, in, he thinks, 1948/49.

On his right was a girl called Ann and to his left he remembers Julienne Wheeler. Others he recalls are Brian Pitt, Barbara Bailey, Alan Pearcey, Mike Benzeval, Dennis Baker and Sylvia Diamond. Can anyone confirm these names and add more?
