Pam Hales stumbled across this picture in a book she borrowed from Waterlooville library.
And she, like me, would like to know the answer to a few questions.
Can you pinpoint the location of the signpost? Does it still exist? Who are the children, and does anyone know what became of them?
The photograph appears in a 1999 book called The Best of Times by Alison Pressley.
It’s a non-fiction work about what it was like to grow up in Britain in the 1950s and early 1960s.
The photo is the only one in the book which has any local relevance and there is nothing in the text to explain why it was used.
Please get in touch if you have some of the answers.
