Pompey legend Len Phillips’ playing days were behind him when this picture was taken.

By then, the late 1950s or early 60s, he was working for De Havilland in Portsmouth and acted as technical advisor to the work’s team.

He is seen here (second from the left in the back row) with the team which also contained Brian Hodges, now 81, who is first on the left of the front row.

Len, who died last month aged 89, was one of the all-time Pompey greats – an inside forward who was an integral part of the club’s League Championship-winning sides of 1948-49 and 1949-50.

Brian’s son Nigel Hodges, of Portsdown Road, Portchester, sent this photograph of Len with the De Havilland Comets.

Nigel said: ‘He was the technical advisor to the football team when they became Sunday league Division IV champions. We think it was in the late 50s or early 60s. Does anybody else recognise other members of the team?’
