How about this for an amazing photograph that will be in Michael G Harvey’s new railway book. The well-known local author says that Fratton Locomotive Depot is in production.

The photograph is of driver Jack Neal standing by the motion of his engine, a Standard Class 5 in Fratton yard back in 1959. Can you imagine being in charge of something like this, charging down the line at over 80 miles an hour?

What you see here is only half of the motion. Wonderful. If you knew Jack or worked in Fratton loco, please let me know.
