The George Hotel, Queen Street, Portsea: the tiling below the left hand ground floor window has the inscription Jewell & Sons Ale, a unique survivor of this former Portsmouth brewery.

Last week I published a photograph of Commercial Road, Portsmouth in 1972 and asked if anyone knew the models of the cars parked up. It must be a bloke thing as I received a dozen e-mails telling me.

I cannot include all the names, unfortunately, but thank you to you all. In the blown-up photo of the west side of the road we have from left to right:

Austin A40 Farina Mk 2, then a Sunbeam Stiletto or Hillman Californian (possibly a Hillman Imp Sports). Then comes a Ford Cortina Mk2 with a Lambretta scooter being parked up in front of that. Behind the Mini in the original photo was a Triumph Herald.
