A colleague at The News, Rob Atkins, has recently moved into one of the two houses seen in the photograph. They are 280a and 280b, Chichester Road, Copnor, Portsmouth.

What Rob is trying to find out is why the two houses, on the corner of Funtington Road, are of a different design to the rest of the street.

It appears all the bay-windowed house were built at the turn of the last century but the two on the end were not constructed until about 1931.

Was there perhaps a smallholding on the corner which the owner refused to sell when the rest of the street was built?

Please get in touch if you know the answer.
