The picture is believed to have been taken about 1912 and shows Prospector high and dry after running aground at Old Portsmouth.

She was being towed out of Portsmouth Harbour when the strong tide that runs at Point caught the vessel and then swept her on to the beach.

She came to rest right across the floating bridge chains which linked the town to Gosport, making it impossible for vehicles to be taken across the harbour.
