Some years before the First World War and everybody is in their Sunday best waiting for ferries on Clarence Pier, Southsea.

Remember when we all dressed in our Sunday best for a day out?

If any of you have been over to the Historical Diving Society’s museum at Gosport you might have met Dr John Bevan, the driving force behind this fascinating collection.

Without his vision and input the attraction would not exist. He converted a derelict Victorian gun battery into an international tourist venue which has identified Gosport as the home of diving.

Now you can help John to more success if you vote for him in a national campaign to find VisitEngland’s Tourism Superstar.

Go to http://tinyurl.com/z8dsz9n and you will find a form where you’ll see John’s name. Click it and his name will have been put forward.

John is also the author of Commander Crabb – What Really Happened plus many other publications on diving.

The Diving Museum is open from 11am until 4pm at weekends and on Bank Holidays. It is in Stokes Bay Road, Gosport.
