Have your say

Did you know that it was 80 years ago this year that Lumps Fort, erected on the shore of Southsea in 1539, ceased to be under the control of the War Office?

In 1931 it was sold to Portsmouth Corporation along with 13 acres of cultivated land for the sum of £47,000.

In an honourable deed, the War Office refused a larger sum from a syndicate who wanted the land to be used as a fun fair.
