Have your say

Here’s a sad scene which will spark many memories for thousands of you. Close your eyes and you can almost hear the music in this forgotten ballroom.

Faded from the memory it might be, but the old Kimbells ballroom is still there languishing forlornly above the casino in Osborne Road, Southsea.

The unused two floors which comprised Kimbells are virtually untouched since the 1970s.

Remember the long dance floor on the first floor with a number of smaller rooms and bars leading off it?

Or the huge dance floor on the second floor which was bigger than a tennis court – it was the place to hold dinner/dances.

I’m grateful to Portsmouth pop historian Mick Cooper for alerting us to the old building and there are further pictures by Trevor Muston on his website michaelcooper.org.uk.

If you have photographs of Kimbells in its heyday, packed with people, please send them to me at the e-mail address.
