Have your say

David Butler, from Fareham, sent me this postcard of the ‘New Hard’, Gosport, taken, possibly, in the early 1900s.

The old chain ferry can be seen half way across the harbour and the fares, according to the board on the kiosk, were 2d between 6.30am and 9am, and 1d from 9am until 11.18pm.

David says: ‘I assume the fares would differ at the Portsmouth side to coincide with the rush back to Gosport in the evening.’
