Have your say

I wonder how many of you played football against the Portsmouth Gas Company on their pitch at Stamshaw?

As I remember it was like playing at Wembley because the pitch was always perfect.

They played in the Dockyard League in the 1960s at a time when each Saturday afternoon every pitch in the area was booked.

Sadly, the pitch was built on. At the bottom of the photo you can see the Tipner dog track.

While researching the photograph of the Portsmouth Gas Company pitch I looked on the internet and found this other photograph. It looked as though another smart restaurant has opened in town.

I then looked on the site to find out where it was as I didn’t recognise the street. That was because it turned out to be in Portsmouth, New Hampshire!

I don’t suppose for a minute the locals call it Pompey.

Anyway, it’s perhaps a little too far to go for dinner.
