On June 12, 1934, the 7,000-ton light cruiser HMS Amphion was launched in Portsmouth dockyard.

The ceremony was performed by the Marchioness of Titchfield who broke a bottle of Empire wine across her bows.

She was later transferred to the Royal Australian Navy and renamed HMAS Perth.
