The recent picture here of Field Marshal Montgomery saluting Pompey captain Reg Flewin at the end of the club’s championship-winning season in 1948/49 prompted David Warren-Holland to send these photographs.

David’s father, Tom Holland, was an inspector with the old Portsmouth City force and he appears in two of the pictures.

The first shows him in uniform welcoming Monty, the club president, onto the Fratton Park pitch to join the celebrations.

He can also be glimpsed in the centre and at the back of the photo of players and officials toasting the club’s achievement.

David, of South Parade, Southsea, also thought Remember When readers would like to be reminded of that marvellous side with the team picture and Monty guarding the trophy, as well as the programme detailing the ceremony on South Parade Pier in 1946 at which the war hero received the freedom of the city.
