The Remember When team receive thousands of photographs each year, the majority showing Portsmouth’s most famous attractions down the decades.

But it is always refreshing to get pictures of ordinary street scenes, views which most people would not think twice about photographing.

I know readers like examining them to recall old shops, fashions and cars.

Step forward Philip Pyke, of Westwood Road, Hilsea, who again has come up trumps.

This time it’s Copnor Road, Portsmouth, as recorded by his camera in 1975.

The picture above shows the junction of Copnor Road, Stubbington Avenue and Burrfields Road.

The Shell garage is where Tesco Express and the petrol station are today.

The car parking area has been replaced with housing.

We also have the Star and Garter on the corner of Copnor Road and Burrfields Road – a view showing little change and a view down Copnor Road with the old fire station in the distance.
