On this day in 1805 Nelson left the George Hotel in High Street, Old Portsmouth, and embarked HMS Victory for the last time. The wind died and his flagship could not sail until the next day.

Five weeks later he was killed at Trafalgar – John Sadden’s The Portsmouth Book of Days.
