This was Palmerston Road, Southsea, in about 1928 with Wendover & Co Ltd on the left and Handleys in the distance.

George Wendover began business as a cabinet maker and upholsterer at 55 and 56 Hanover Street, Portsea, in about 1855. His son had joined him by 1859.

The business continued to grow and by 1890 it had moved to Palmerston Road where it was a well-known firm until 1976, even surviving the upheaval of the Second World War.
