How many of you remember when sausages came out of the site of this garage?

For what is now Kingsley Garage was once Keens Pies, a sausage and pie factory.

I’m grateful to Ashley Pook for the three pictures here. Kingsley Garage is on the corner of Baffins Road, Milton, Portsmouth, opposite Kingston Prison.

Ashley, the son of the garage’s owner, says the banger factory photo dates back to the 1930s or 40s. The building was turned into a garage in the late 1940s.

He says: ‘Apparently it was also a dairy at one time too.

‘We still have the old fridge which we use as a storeroom with 10-inch thick walls and an insulated ceiling.

‘We have a customer who claims he started an engineering apprenticeship here back in 1948 so that’s the earliest date that we know of it being a workshop..’

He’d love to know more about the site’s history and see any further pictures you might have.

Please get in touch with any memories or pictures you like to pass on.
