Sent in by Tom Gauntlett of Purbrook, this photograph shows the ‘A’ team of Hilsea Modern School for Boys in Portsmouth in 1956.

Many good footballers were produced by the school, who went on to play in local and county teams.

The cream on the cake in those days was that if your team was in a local cup final, then it would be played on the hallowed turf of Fratton Park.

Tom tells me that he played street football with a tennis ball on the Tipner naval estate.

He played with Terry Wheatley and Alan Smithard, who have since passed away. Are you featured in the photograph?
