Ron Ford dropped me a line about the late Eddie Lever, the ex-Pompey manager and school teacher.

He said he knew Mr Lever when he was a teacher at Drayton Road School, North End, Portsmouth, in 1948.

At the time he was also the manager of Pompey Reserves.

As the sports teacher, he trained the school football team which Ron played for.

In 1948 they won the Evening News School Cup beating Portsea School 4-2 at Fratton Park.

One of their players was Ralph Hunt who went on to play for Pompey, Bournemouth, Derby County, Norwich, Grimsby and several other clubs.

He died in a road accident in December 1964. Any more memories of Eddie would be appreciated.
