I’m grateful to Jean Chase-Long, from Southsea, for these two postcards showing two of Portsmouth’s outdoor children’s pools.
Even on a gloomy, rainy day, the old Southsea pool managed to attract several youngsters, even though the sea was just to the left of this shot.
And the paddling pool at Hilsea Lido was always a huge favourite with dozens of young families from the north of the city.
Both pictures are undated, but judging by the dress, or lack of it, they were taken either side of the Second World War.
The Southsea picture might well have been taken in the summer of 1924 because the naval war memorial, on the extreme left, is shrouded in scaffolding. It opened on October 15 that year.
