Jeannette Smith’s recent photographic memories of the Queen’s visit to Fratton Road in 1977 – her silver jubilee year – prompted more of you to dig out pictures from around that time.

Elizabeth Hyde, of Berkshire Close, Fratton, Portsmouth, was on the spot on July 11, 1980, to capture these photos of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.

They were in Clive, Road, Fratton, to open the community centre amid hundreds of wellwishers.

Elizabeth said: ‘We lived in Ethel Road, off Clive Road, at the time. The Queen looked lovely and Prince Philip didn’t look bad either.

‘I called him over and he gave a nice smile, said hello, and went,’ she said.

And Karen Eveleigh found a photograph taken three years earlier of the Queen on a walkabout in Commercial Road.

It was taken the same day as her silver jubilee procession down Fratton Road.
