Here we see a trolleybus in London Road, North End, Portsmouth, in 1939.

In June 1934 Ben Hall, the general manager of Portsmouth Corporation Tramways, recommended that the council should ‘scrap the trams entirely and as soon as possible substitute the trolleybus’.

This proposal was taken up and in that same year the first electric trolleybus went into service in the city.
