It would take someone of the age of 55-plus to remember this scene along Commercial Road at the junction of Church Street.

THIS picture, which was used here in January, prompted Joyce Steel to get in touch and ask for readers’ help.

William King, from Hayling Island, sent it to us and it shows his grandparents Mr and Mrs W Griffin outside their small grocer’s shop in Hertford Street, Buckland, Portsmouth.

Joyce asks if they had any connection with Alice Griffin.

She said: ‘Her father was a grocer at 333 Commercial Road, Portsmouth in the 1880s.

‘She married my great grandfather Thomas Sibson in 1883 but died of consumption in 1886. They had no children.

‘If there is a connection it would be lovely to know if there are any pictures of the shop and Alice and her father or family group.’
