These two pictures show one of this area’s loveliest and most striking villages, Hambledon.

This is West Street and very little has changed between the time the first picture was taken – about the turn of the last century – to the present day.

Only the inevitable presence of cars, a telegraph pole and a burglar alarm give the game away.

The former restaurant on the corner now trades as a shop, but everything else is instantly recognisable.
