My report last week on the water under Portsea Island coming from across the English Channel brought a response from Terry Hinkley.
Terry is a guide at the Royal Clarence Yard, Gosport, and he tells people when passing the Old Well House that it drew French water from a depth of 600ft.
Apparently this is a great reservoir of water stretching under the Channel all the way up to Oxford.
Haslar Hospital and the forts all used the water, as did Gosport breweries.
I wonder if the water companies know of this resource. If they do you can bet your life we’ll be charged for it.
