You may think this is just another train picture at Bedhampton crossing.

But how many of you realise you have not stepped on to a slam-door train since September 2006? These units were taken over by the most uncomfortable of trains, the Desiros.

Slam-door trains continued for a while on the Brockenhurst to Lymington Pier service until May 2010 and then that was it – the days of a romantic send-off from railway stations was ended. Never again could you say goodbye to someone out of a train window.
