Sea scene never to be seen again

Here is a photgraph you could not take today, for all the sea seen here has now been reclaimed and Port Solent and the M275 been built on it. Another photo from Keith Lanes collection taken in the 1950s

We all know that certain parts of Britain’s shoreline are being eaten away by the sea – but here is a shot you’ll never see again.

It is looking north-west from the Tipner area of Portsea towards Portsdown Hill and most of what you see was reclaimed in the 1970s. In its place is the M275 and Port Solent.

This is one from Keith Lane’s collection of 1950s photographs he purchased in a job lot some 30 years ago.
