It was 1970 and suddenly the sixties were no longer swinging.

Ted Heath replaced Harold Wilson as prime minister in June; the half-crown coin ceased to be legal tender, and the National Westminster Bank began trading after the merger of the National Provincial and Westminster banks.

The age of majority was reduced from 21 to 18 for most legal purposes, a Boeing 747 landed at Heathrow becoming the first jumbo jet to land in Britain and Mick Jagger was fined £200 for possessing cannabis.

I’m about to embark on an additional weekly nostalgia project for The News and I need your help.

We shall kick off by looking back at October 1970 and week by week, year by year, work our way forward to 2006.

You might well have been caught in a photograph wearing ridiculously wide flares?
