In the background is the Landport Drapery Bazaar, renamed Allders in 1982 and now Debenhams.

The LDB, a department store, was founded in 1865. It was destroyed by German bombs on the night of January 10, 1941, and this building was put up in the early 1950s after Commercial Road and Arundel Street had been widened.
