The pier photographed from the air shortly after the Second World War in 1945.

In 1940 a hole was blown in the centre of the pier as a defence measure and the temporary gangway spanning the gap can be seen.

The bandstand on the pier head has been removed and the majority of the landing stage stripped of its decking.
