Have your say

I recently published a picture of a large building being used as a garage in Clarendon Road, Southsea, which I knew had once been a skating rink.

I always thought it was an ice skating rink but thanks to Stephen Pomeroy I now know differently.

He says the premises were listed from 1910 to 1914 as the American Roller Skating Rink (pictured).

From 1915 until the mid-1920s it was used as a garage/depot for buses and coaches of the Southsea Tourist Company which became part of Southdown.

Wadham’s is listed there from 1936 to 1962 as Morris, later as the Morris & Jaguar Service Depot. It was later just a motor body repair and paint shop.

Apparently, some time in the 1960s, the building was demolished and Ravenswood Gardens built on the site. I am sure Ravenswood was not there in the 1960s, more like the 1970s. If anyone has more details about this site please let me know.
